The Asheville area real estate market has shown signs of life recently but remains far below peak levels. The number of existing homes sold in Buncombe County in January, for instance, was 34 percent higher than a year ago but 50 percent lower than January 2006. The high end of the market has been especially slow, but there are signs of improvement.
The timing is right for those buyers who do not have to sell to buy. Price reductions, short sales and foreclosures present opportunity for good deals. And with Spring a few weeks away, I predict considerable market improvement.
